How is it this light, and this affordable?
Traditional gold locks your money away in weight. We found a better way — and made it a world first.
Three ways to make gold jewellery
They can look alike in a photo. In the hand, on the scale and at buyback they could not be more different.
Solid gold
All gold, all the way through
The traditional way. Beautiful and valuable, but heavy, and priced on the full weight of gold, so a bold chain or kada can cost several lakh. Most of it stays in the locker.
Gold plating
A few microns of gold on brass or copper
What most ‘1 gram gold’ and fashion jewellery actually is. The gold layer is thinner than a hair, wears off within months, and has no resale value. Cheap for a reason.
Rema Gold Forming
Pure 24kt gold, grown thick over a silver core
Our 24kt electroforming. The gold is measured in grams, not microns: 0.2 g to 2 g of pure gold per piece, printed on the tag. Light to wear, priced on the gold it actually contains, re-golded free for life and bought back at metal value.
Four steps to grown gold
A silver form is hand-finished to the exact shape of the final piece: light, strong, precise.
The core is suspended in a 24kt gold electrolyte and charged, drawing pure gold to its surface.
Gold deposits atom by atom, layer upon layer, to a thickness ordinary plating never reaches.
Each piece is hand-polished to a warm 24kt glow, then weighed, tagged and barcoded.
Straight answers
Is it real gold?
Yes. The outer layer of every piece is pure 24-karat gold, the same purity as a gold coin. What makes it different from solid gold is what is underneath: a light silver core instead of more gold. That is why a piece that looks like 20 grams of gold can contain 1 gram of it.
How is this different from gold plating or ‘1 gram gold’?
Plating deposits a layer a few microns thick on brass or copper. It looks fine for a few months and then wears through, and the gold in it is worth nothing. Electroforming grows the gold for hours until it is hundreds of times thicker, and we measure it on a scale. Each tag states the pure gold content in grams, and we buy that gold back.
Will it fade or turn colour?
24kt gold does not tarnish, so the colour stays. With years of daily wear the high points of a piece can lose some lustre, which is why every Rema piece comes with free re-gold for life: send it back and we restore it.
How is the price worked out?
Three parts, shown on every product page: the value of the pure gold in the piece at today's rate, the making charge for the design and hand-finishing, and 3% GST. Nothing hidden.
What happens if I want to sell it back?
We buy back any Rema piece, any time, at 100% of its metal value: the pure gold and silver in it, at the market rate on that day. The making charge is not refunded. Bring it to a store or courier it to us.
Is it hallmarked?
Our solid gold jewellery, sold in store, is BIS hallmarked. Electroformed pieces carry a Rema tag and barcode with the exact pure 24kt gold content, verified on our scale, and that is the figure we buy back against.
Can it be resized or repaired?
Rings can usually be adjusted by a size; chains and bracelets can be shortened. Because the gold is grown rather than cast, major reshaping is not possible, so please check sizes before ordering. Repairs are done at our Karol Bagh bench.
